Kulfa Seeds Benefits

Overview

Kulfa is an Urdu word for Purslane, a succulent green leafy vegetable, Common purslane is a low-growing plant with succulent leaves. Kulfa seeds are considered as quite nutritious because it is usually high in omega-3 fatty acids and contains significant amounts of vitamins A and C, as well as calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium, and antioxidants.

An annual succulent, 10-40 cm tall that belongs to the Portulacaceae family. The stems can either grow horizontally or vertically. The dark green, egg shaped leaves are arranged opposite or alternate, so we get these seeds. The plant of Kulfa Seeds blooms from July to September and the small yellow flowers wither early. The fruit is 5 – 10 mm large, an oval-shaped capsule containing numerous small, shiny black seeds.

Kulfa seeds are grow wildly in India and also known as luni-bhaji or kulfa in other parts of the country. In many parts of the world, it is said a pleasurable ingredient. Purslane red Gruner seeds are available online and are much in demand for their nutritive properties.

Kulfa Seeds are a very nutritious plant that contains high levels of proteins, sugars, and mucilage. These seeds are a good source of vitamins A, B, and C, nicotinamide, and many minerals (magnesium, potassium, and nitrate).


These are rich in vitamin A which is a natural antioxidant value. It can play role in vision and healthy mucus membranes and protect from lung and oral cavity cancer. Purslane contains the highest content of vitamin A among green leafy vegetables.

Research studies show that consumption of foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, and stroke, and help prevent the development of ADHD, autism, and other developmental differences in children.

Purslane is also a rich source of vitamin C, and some B-complex vitamins like riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, and carotenoids, as well as dietary minerals, such as iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and manganese.
