Rusks are as healthy as the ingredients you use, provided you are not allergic to any of it. Traditionally, rusks are baked from cake flour and are usually buttermilk flavoured, but in more modern times (and for a healthier option) wholewheat flour is used.
If the diabetic products cost more (I don’t have an example with me), then just use the normal hi-fibre rusks. Diabetic products are often lower in sugar or carbs, but have a higher fat and therefore a higher energy content than an equivalent ‘normal’ product.
It is made from wheat flour, sugar, skimmed milk powder, vegetable oil, gluten, malt extract, soy flour, salt, yeast, and water.
Rusks are dry, hard biscuits or twice-baked bread that are used for everything from Greek-style bruschetta to teething snacks.
