Overview

Ashwagandha is an evergreen shrub that grows in Asia and Africa. It is commonly used for stress, this is a fairly small shrub with small pale green flowers, simple leaves, and red berries. It has a tuberous root, carrot, or ginger shape. This also has a distinct smell, described as horse-like, which is where it gets its name, ashwagandha; Ashwa is Sanskrit for horse and gandha for the smell. It is an evergreen shrub that grows in India, the Middle East, and parts of Africa.

Ashwagandha contains chemicals that might help to calm the brain, reduce swelling, lower blood pressure, and improve the immune system. Since, ashwagandha is traditionally used as an adaptogen, it is used for many problems related to stress. Adaptogens are believed to help the body in resist physical and mental stress.
